I loved it to bits. I tried to look at it with a critic eye, but I don't really have anything remotely negative to say about it, you see? at first I thought it might be too many info/characters mentioned so early in the fic, but it totally works, because as you go reading you pile that info in your head the way Spencer does (you keep a mental list of everything he does) and so when you get to the 3rd paragraph you really feel his pain. Know what I mean? You go "yeah, it's one of those days, poor guy!".
I love how his first concern about his own death is Ryan's safety (we see taking care of Ryan like he did before is an everyday thing). And then, of course, how he takes care of the cat. He's so tired and he still goes and takes the cat with him, instead of calling Animal Control.
Let's say I can see how Jon could fall in love with him!!
Hee, YAY!!!! I AM SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW!!! :DDDD
I'm actually really pleased with how it's turning out, but I'm never sure if it will work for other people the same way it works for me. So it makes me really really happy that it works for you, too. :)
After some pondering, I decided I just wanted to start it off like a rant-y blog entry or phone conversation with a friend about a bad day--where you don't have to really explain who everyone is, because either A) they already know who you're talking about, or B) they get the point, regardless of if they know the details of who you're referring to by name.
And I'll expand all of those characters later, obviously, but I just wanted to set that sort of tone for the fic, you know what I mean? IDK IF I'M MAKING SENSE ANYMORE, STOP ME IF I'M NOT
As for his relationship with Ryan in this, I see it as sort of a...Ryan is sort of like his Rain Man, you know? (Much higher-functioning, but still.) He's like an older-brother-type figure for Spencer, who he's really attached to, even if Ryan needs a lot of help staying grounded enough in our world so he doesn't, like, accidentally starve himself for a week, or something, you know? Ryan's just a really absent-minded genius, in his own sort of way. At least, that's how Spencer sees him.
Yeah, I know what you mean about the tone, and I do believe it works. As I was trying to explain in my earlier comment, you feel connected to Spencer, kinda like a shoulder to cry on? Like letting a friend rant a lot when they get from work so they get it all out, and you'lll ask who's who later, if you don't know it.
I like that Ryan. I'm guessing he takes care of Spencer too, that he's the kind of guy that knows about the Big Stuff - Spencer, work, things like that - but can't be trusted to remember the basic things, like feeding himself or locking the doors. So it just works between them.
Suggestions? well, keep going like that! when's Spencer going to return the cat? is it going to be a fast thing, or will Spencer have to spend some time with it and put up posters before he knows who it belongs to? Anyway, I think he'll take good care of it while he has it, enough to kind of like having it around (poor Spencer, living alone. I'd bet he even thinks about getting one, until he meets the owner and think about getting HIM instead. Or maybe I'm just projecting!!!! hahaha... hhmmm, a Jon Walker!)
Right, right, that's exactly what I was going for! I'm glad it works ^^
Exactly. He'll sit there and listen to Spencer rant for an hour about some stupid shit Pete did today (and he's really *actually* listening, for the most part!), but then look up when Spencer stops talking and looks at him strangely and be all like, "what?" And Spence is just like, "*sniffs delicately* ...Ry, when was the last time you actually showered?" And Ryan's just like, "...huh. I dunno, a couple days ago, I guess, I should probably go do that, huh?" And Spencer just shakes his head fondly at him and shoos him off.
Well, Ryan's going to come let himself in the next morning and be like "...did you always have a cat?" And Spencer will just be like "...*FACEPALM*" And Spencer will then proceed to freak out about what to do with it for the next half hour, after which Ryan will casually mention that he thinks he saw crazy-cat-man-from-the-basement putting up lost cat posters earlier this morning. At which Spencer will just look at him, and then be like, "*DOUBLEFACEPALM*" And then there will be more freaking out at Ryan AFTER he returns the cat, of course, when crazy-cat-man-from-the-basement turns out to be crazy-HOT-cat-man-from-the-basement. ;D
A witch. Bor-RING, I know, but it's all I could dig up XD Plus, I thought I looked pretty cute. I wore a tight black leotard with short, slightly puffy sleeves, and jeans over that. I had an awesome hat that I stole from the YPC costume room, and then I also wore character shoes. :)
And they send these bizarre, random, BAD mixes. I'm not even sure if I can describe them. But if you spend an hour in Pier 1, you'll know what I'm talking about. They're just STRANGE. (And not in the good way.)
